There’s many great updates in the industry the past few weeks but here are some highlights:
The Chainsmokers raised a $35 million in commitments for their brand new early stage fund, Mantis. They will be investing with the mindset of products or services which their fans may find useful. You can hear more about it on their appearance on 20VC here.
Bandcamp’s fee free Fridays have set the company apart from competitors during the COVID pandemic and helped them build an artist-friendly approach to releases. The LA Times took notice and covered the company from an “anti-Spotify” perspective which does take some of the uniqueness of the platform as a digital service offering away.

TikTok is partnering with Teespring to give creators the ability to sell merchandise to their fans directly via the app. Creator eligibility and product rollout is still being worked on, but it’s expected to launch in September.
In March, we announced RADAR, our emerging-artist program spotlighting rising talent from around the globe—from Brazil to Japan to Germany to New Zealand and beyond. Now, six months and more than 2 billion streams later, we’re excited to share the debut of our on-platform RADAR hub, home to extensive, original, and exclusive RADAR content.
As I ponder on these past few years, I’m filled with wonder and gratitude. What started as an invitation that went out to about 15 women I knew in the industry at the time has today become a global community.
The startup’s name is inspired by the medical condition synaesthesia, where senses are joined (think of musicians who can ‘see’ sounds).Synaesthetic’s plans are to create a hardware/software combination that can bring this kind of experience to a wider group of people.
